‘Don’t Set UNIZIK On Fire,’ Sacked VC Tells FG
By Samaila Emmanuel Bzugu
The embattled former Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Prof. Charles Esimone, has urged the Federal Government to intervene in the ongoing crisis rocking the institution.
Esimone, who was recently sacked by the Federal Government, warned that the university’s situation could escalate into chaos if not addressed promptly.
In a statement, Esimone appealed to the government to reconsider its decision, citing concerns about the university’s stability and potential consequences for students and staff.
The Federal Government should not set UNIZIK on fire
“The Federal Government should not set UNIZIK on fire,” Esimone said. “The university is a strategic institution, and any mistake can have far-reaching consequences.”
Esimone’s removal has sparked protests from students, academics, and alumni, with many questioning the government’s decision. The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has condemned Esimone’s sack, calling it “unjust.”

The Federal Government has yet to comment on Esimone’s appeal. Esimone’s sack followed allegations of mismanagement and financial impropriety. The university’s governing council had previously recommended his removal.
