Accused Catholic Priest Allegedly Fathered Children with Women He Sexually Assaulted

4A Roman Catholic priest, Anthony Odiong, connected to churches in Texas and Louisiana, is facing serious accusations of sexually assaulting women under his care.

Reports say he also fathered two children from these alleged actions.

During a bail hearing on Tuesday, prosecutors revealed shocking details about the case. They accused Odiong of abusing his role as a priest to exploit vulnerable women.

The court was told he had planned to flee to Nigeria if released on bail. As a result, the judge refused his request to lower the $5.5 million bail.

Waco police detective Bradley DeLange testified that Odiong made phone calls from jail, instructing his followers to help him escape if he was freed.

Authorities also presented DNA evidence confirming a 99.99% chance that Odiong fathered a child as a result of a sexual assault on one of his victims. They mentioned a second child, currently living in Nigeria, born during Odiong’s time as a priest.

Odiong, 55, is charged with five counts of first-degree sexual assault and two counts of second-degree assault involving three women. Detective DeLange stated that there are at least nine known victims across the U.S. and abroad.

Despite the allegations, some of Odiong’s followers continue to support him. Rose Ann Vanek, a supporter, said, “He is a dear friend of myself and my family,” adding that she would help pay for his release if allowed.

If found guilty of the first-degree charges, Odiong could face life in prison. Meanwhile, Robert G. Callahan II, a civil attorney representing some of the victims, praised the judge’s decision to deny bail.

“The denial of bond sends a critical message that abuse of power and trust will not be tolerated,” he said.
