Pep Guardiola confident in Foden’s return to form
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola believes Phil Foden is close to rediscovering his best form, despite a slow start to the season.
Foden, who netted 28 goals in all competitions last season and was named PFA Player of the Year, has only started one of City’s five games this term.
Ahead of City’s Champions League clash against Slovan Bratislava, Guardiola expressed confidence in the 24-year-old forward.
“Phil Foden is going to be back,” Guardiola told reporters. “I saw signs in his last 30 minutes at St James’ Park [against Newcastle]. He’s getting back to his rhythm.”
Foden has yet to score this season, but Guardiola pointed to the player’s limited pre-season training and health issues following the Euros.
City face Bratislava after a 0-0 draw against Inter Milan in their opening Champions League game.
“I have incredible respect for all the teams in the Champions League, especially away,” Guardiola added.
