No fewer than three people have been abducted as gunmen attacked a motorcycle showroom of the popular popular Nigerian vehicle producer, Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing in Nnewi, Anambra State.

The incident occurred at the company’s showroom located along Owerri Road, Nnewi at 6:45 pm on Tuesday, November 26, 2024.

This was confirmed by the Public Relations Officer of the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga.

Ikenga said that the police had launched a joint security forces offensive operation for possible rescue of the abductees and arrest of the abductors.

He said, “The Police Command is determined and is already working with information obtained from the scene for the ongoing rescue operations. 

“The Command also urges residents or anyone with useful information that will aid the investigation to come forward to the Command headquarters, Awka, or the nearest police station.” 

On Sunday, Gunmen attacked vigilante operatives along Amesi-Uga Road in Umuchu, a community in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Tochukwu Ikenga, the police spokesperson in Anambra State, disclosed this in a statement on Monday.

Mr Ikenga, a superintendent of police, said one of the vigilante operatives was injured during the attack.

The spokesperson said the vigilante operatives were members of the Anambra State Vigilante Group (AVG) of the Umuchu Community.

The attack occurred exactly one week after gunmen killed four vigilante operatives in two communities in Anambra State.

The communities were Abatete in the Idemili North Local Government Area of the state and Ukpo in the Dunukofia Local Government Area of the state.

Ikenga said a joint security team led by police operatives, upon receipt of information, arrived at the scene and engaged the hoodlums in a shootout.

“Unfortunately, during the gun duel, bullets hit the fuel tank of the Toyota Frontier Van belonging to the AVG. As a result, the van was razed down,” he said.

The spokesperson said the joint security team also rescued one wounded vigilante operative during the operation.

“The joint security forces quickly rushed the victim to the hospital where he is currently responding to treatment and activated intelligent-information-led patrols in the area aimed to deny the criminals the space they enjoy to cause havoc and possibly arrest,” he stated.
