We don’t charge fee for NIN registration –NIMC

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has restated that enrollment for the National Identification Number (NIN) is free of monetary charge.

This came as some Nigerians have complained of extortion at some NIN registration points across the country.

But the commission in a statement on Sunday said it does not charge nor authorise any of its staff or Front End Partners (FEP) to charge applicants for the registration.

“The commission does not charge nor authorise any staff or its Front End Partners (FEP) to charge applicants for the NIN enrolment.

“To this end, the commission has directed security agencies to track any staff or FEPs caught extorting applicants for NIN enrollment,” the statement signed by the Head of Corporate Communications, Dr Kayode Adegoke, said.

Adegoke, in the statement, said anyone caught will be sanctioned in line with the provisions of the law, and the license of such FEP will be withdrawn.

He said the general public was advised to report any staff or FEP that demands money for enrollment through the email- customercare@nimc.gov.ng, or phone 07002255646.

He said the commission assured of its utmost commitment to ensuring seamless enrollment services and to stem the tide of extortion.
