Manchester United coach, Ruben Amorim, has highlighted the challenges faced early in his tenure at Sporting Lisbon, comparing those experiences with his current journey at Old Trafford.

Despite a tough start—a recent defeat to Nottingham Forest at home—Amorim believes that, while expectations are high at United, there is potential for growth and improvement.

Nottingham Forest’s victory was significant, marking a milestone they hadn’t achieved in nearly 30 years. This backdrop highlights the ambitious goals held by Manchester United, which include a desire to contend for the Premier League title and make strong showings in the Champions League.

Reflecting on his initial weeks as manager at United—where he has achieved two victories from five matches, only one of which has been in the league—Amorim emphasized that perceptions can be misleading. He pointed out that he also experienced a rocky start with Sporting, which, despite winning 16 out of 17 games after he took over, faced their struggles initially.

“I faced similar challenges at Sporting, and it’s common for many clubs,” Amorim stated. “It’s all about managing the process, continuing to implement our strategies, and focusing on improving the team’s performance.”

It is evident that Manchester United’s current squad is under scrutiny, and there is work to be done to minimize defensive errors. For instance, goalkeeper Andre Onana faced challenges during the match, which highlighted the need for a cohesive response as a team.

After their unexpected 2-3 defeat to Nottingham Forest, Amorim acknowledged that teamwork is crucial. He said, “Onana has saved us in numerous situations, and it’s our responsibility as a team to support him and bounce back when mistakes happen, as we did in previous matches.”
