Kemi Badenoch’s identity debate holds zero value for Nigeria – Moghalu

Former presidential candidate and economist, Kingsley Moghalu, has called on Nigerian leaders to prioritize addressing the country’s economic challenges, stating that the ongoing debate over Kemi Badenoch’s identity holds no tangible value for Nigeria.

In a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, Moghalu expressed his views on the controversy surrounding Badenoch, a UK Member of Parliament, who has faced criticism for comments perceived as distancing herself from her Nigerian roots.

“Even if she were to become the UK Prime Minister tomorrow morning, it would have absolutely ZERO implications (or benefits even) for Nigeria and Nigerians,” Moghalu said.

Badenoch, who has risen in British politics, has recently been at the center of discussions about her heritage and identity following remarks that drew criticism, including from Nigeria’s Vice President Kashim Shettima.

Moghalu urged Nigerians and their leaders to shift focus to solving the nation’s pressing issues. “So why all the fuss? Nigerian leaders and Nigerians should fix Nigeria’s problems. ‘Claiming’ Kemi or her ‘denying’ Nigeria won’t solve them,” he added.
