Championship: Frank Lampard set to take over as Coventry manager
Frank Lampard is set to be named Coventry City’s new manager, with an official announcement expected soon.
The former Chelsea and Everton boss is set to take charge of the Sky Blues in time for their home clash against Cardiff City on Saturday, talkSPORT suggests.
Lampard, 46, has been in advanced talks with Coventry since last week, marking his return to management after leaving his interim role at Chelsea in May 2023.
His appointment follows the sacking of Mark Robins, Coventry’s longest-serving manager, who led the club to successive strong finishes but departed after a challenging start to the season.
Coventry, currently 17th in the Championship, faces high expectations under Lampard, who previously guided Derby County to the 2019 play-off final.
Despite falling short of Premier League promotion, his success at Derby remains a highlight of his managerial career.
Owner Doug King had earlier confirmed Lampard’s candidacy, noting, “Frank is one of many high-quality candidates we’ve considered.”
Meanwhile, Ruud van Nistelrooy, another applicant, is reportedly a contender for Leicester City’s vacant managerial role.
