ASUU Zonal Coordinator Escapes Kidnappers in Edo

Benin, Sept. 30, 2024 (TheGavel) – Prof. Monday Igbafe, the Benin Zonal Coordinator of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and a lecturer at Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, has successfully escaped from the captivity of suspected kidnappers in Edo State.

According to reports, Igbafe was ambushed late Saturday night at the entrance of his residence in Ekpoma by armed men believed to be kidnappers. The assailants forcibly took control of his Toyota Highlander and abducted him to an unknown location.

Following the abduction, operatives of the Ekpoma Police Division swiftly launched a manhunt, combing the surrounding bushes in search of the professor. Their persistent pressure on the kidnappers reportedly forced them to abandon their plan, leading to Igbafe’s successful escape.

The Public Relations Officer of the Edo State Police Command, SP Moses Yamu, confirmed the incident when contacted on Monday. He praised the efforts of the police team, stating, “The command is aware of the report. Operatives of the Ekpoma Division mounted pressure on the kidnappers, which led to the escape of the victim. We are on the trail of the suspects to ensure that they are brought to book.”

This incident adds to the growing list of kidnapping cases targeting high-profile individuals in the region, sparking concerns over the increasing security challenges.

Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the perpetrators as law enforcement agencies continue to work towards ensuring the safety and security of citizens in Edo State. (NAN)
