A 20-year-old Zoology student of Lagos State University Mautin Peter has emerged as the winner of the Badagry Social Media Awards (BSMA) beauty queen competition.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the first runner-up in the competition was given to Rachael Hungbo, while Maudo Ramoni was the second runner-up.

Speaking shortly after being crowned, Peter promised to use the platform to make a positive impact in Badagry communities.

“Winning anything is exhilarating. I plan to use this opportunity to educate young girls in secondary schools in Badagry on the menace of early pregnancy.

“I will also use this to promote tourism development in Badagry,” she said.

Similarly, Alexander Senayon, a solicitor, who won the Best Professional Award on use of social media, said his track record online distinguished him for the award.

Commenting, Sewhude Akande, organiser of the awards said the competition was to celebrate young Badagry people, who are doing well in their different disciplines.

“The award is to celebrate young Badagrians who are using social media to promote the community and expand their businesses and brand themselves.

“BSMA is to give directions, open the eyes of young people and the community at large on the power of social media and how it is being used for individual development,” he said.

Akande thanked the people who had contributed to the successful hosting of the awards.

NAN reports that Bonu Solomon, a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly representing Badagry Constituency 1, was honoured with a special recognition award for his exceptional contributions to the development of Badagry.

Olusegun Onilude, Chairman of Badagry Local Government, was also presented with an award of recognition for his infrastructural development of the town.

NAN reports that many Badagry youths were also given awards for their exemplary performance on social media in promoting and transforming Badagry.
