An unidentified woman reportedly jumped from the Third Mainland Bridge into the waters near the University of Lagos (UNILAG) waterfront in Lagos State, leading to her tragic death despite prompt rescue efforts.

The incident, which took place around 4 p.m. on Thursday, saw marine police officers stationed in the area quickly spring into action in a bid to save her.

However, despite their swift response, medical personnel later confirmed that she did not survive.

Lagos State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the unfortunate development on Friday.

According to Hundeyin, the woman was retrieved from the water at the UNILAG shore slipway by marine police officers who were on duty in the vicinity.

However, their efforts to revive her proved unsuccessful. Medical personnel from the University of Lagos examined her and declared her deceased.

Following the confirmation of her death, authorities transported her remains to the Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH) Mortuary in Yaba, where her body is being preserved.

Hundeyin noted that investigations are ongoing to determine her identity and the circumstances that led to the incident.

The authorities have also urged anyone with relevant information about the deceased to come forward.
