A Pakistani man has been charged with murder after allegedly shooting and killing the administrator of a community WhatsApp group for removing him from the chat, police confirmed on Saturday.

The tragic incident occurred on Thursday evening in Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, a region known for its history of sectarian violence.

According to police reports seen by AFP, the victim, identified as Mushtaq Ahmed, had removed the suspect, Ashfaq, from the WhatsApp group following an argument. In response, the suspect allegedly arranged a meeting with Mushtaq under the guise of reconciliation but arrived armed and fatally shot him.

Mushtaq’s brother, in a statement to the authorities, claimed that Ashfaq was enraged after being removed from the group and took the drastic step as an act of revenge.

Authorities have since arrested Ashfaq, and he is now facing murder charges.
