Tragedy struck in Osun State as a Customs officer, Tijani Kabiru, along with his wife and four children, died in a fire accident.

The incident occurred around 2 a.m. on Monday, December 2, at their residence in the Olowopoku area of Ede.

According to reports from The Nation, Kabiru, who is believed to be in his late 40s, was asleep with his wife and five children when the fire broke out. It is believed that the fire originated from a solar panel installed on the roof of their house.

A resident of the area stated, “The fire started around 2:09 a.m. from the roof. An electrical spark from the solar panel ignited the flames.”

One of the children, a 13-year-old, was reading when the fire began. He realized that his father and other family members were incapacitated due to smoke inhalation, so he ran outside to call for help.

Access to the house was difficult for residents trying to assist due to security features like electric barbed wires and security doors.

The fire service was alerted at around 3:10 a.m. but unfortunately, by the time firefighters arrived on the scene, Tijani, his wife, and their four children had already perished in the fire.
