Training, Best Welfare for Soldiers – COAS

Kaduna State, Oct. 4, 2024 (TheGavel) – The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, emphasized that training is the most effective form of welfare for soldiers, as it ensures successful outcomes in various operational environments. He made this assertion during the graduation ceremony for 585 Special Forces of Exercise Restore Hope VII, held at the Nigerian Army Training Camp in Kachia, Kaduna State.

The special forces graduating from the exercise included 571 soldiers and 14 officers. Lagbaja, represented by the Chief of Training at Army Headquarters, Maj.-Gen. Sani Muhammad, explained that the importance of training is a fundamental aspect of his command philosophy, which focuses on continual improvement in soldier preparedness.

He commended the soldiers’ demonstration of weapon handling, teamwork, and combat readiness, noting that these skills are crucial for operational effectiveness. “This training is designed to build upon the soldiers’ initial training at the depot,” Lagbaja stated. He highlighted that the training regimen addresses any obstacles encountered in the field, ensuring that soldiers are better prepared for their duties.

As the troops transition to operational settings, Lagbaja expressed confidence that their enhanced training and equipment will lead to improved performance across all theaters of operations within the country. He issued a stern warning to adversaries, asserting that the morale of the troops remains high and that they are prepared to maintain their momentum of success in combating threats.

“The Nigerian Army appreciates the support it receives from the Federal Government and the citizens of Nigeria,” he added. Lagbaja emphasized the significance of adopting a ‘whole-society approach’ to address insurgency issues, stating that this collaborative strategy is expected to yield increasingly positive results in the fight against insecurity.
