Security Guard Arraigned for Allegedly Stealing N3m Jewellery in Kaduna

Kaduna, Oct. 2, 2024 (TheGavel) – A 38-year-old security guard, David Kingsley, was on Wednesday arraigned before a Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing jewellery valued at N3 million from a resident of Yakowa Estate, Narayi, Kaduna.

The defendant, who resides in Ungwan Sunday, Kaduna, pleaded not guilty to the charge of theft.

According to the Prosecutor, Insp. Chidi Leo, Kingsley, who was employed as a security guard by the residents of the estate, allegedly committed the offence on Sept. 23, 2024. The defendant, along with accomplices still at large, reportedly broke into the apartment of one of the residents and made away with the valuable jewellery.

Leo informed the court that the theft was captured on the house’s CCTV, which led to Kingsley’s arrest after the incident was reported to the police.

The prosecution stated that the crime violated the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.

In his ruling, Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000, with two sureties of the same amount. He ordered that the sureties must be gainfully employed and reside within the court’s jurisdiction. Additionally, they must provide evidence of tax payments to the Kaduna State Government.

The case was adjourned until Oct. 28 for further hearing. (NAN)
