New Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has warned his players he is ready to be “ruthless” as he prepares for his first game in charge against Ipswich Town on Sunday.

The 39-year-old Portuguese tactician joined the Red Devils during the international break, replacing Erik ten Hag.

He faces a daunting task of reviving a team languishing in 12th place in the Premier League.

Despite his calm and approachable demeanor since arriving from Sporting Lisbon, Amorim made it clear he won’t tolerate selfishness within the squad.

Speaking ahead of the game, he explained: “I can be the nicest guy if the team works as one. But if someone thinks only about themselves, I will be a different person.

“They’ll understand in the small details that when there’s work to be done, I can be ruthless.”

Amorim, known for his tactical acumen and youth development during his tenure at Sporting, is optimistic about working with United’s current squad and leaning on their academy talent.

“This is Manchester United’s project. You need young players from the academy to connect with the club’s history and help with financial fair play rules. They bring something different to the team.”

With no transfer window available until January, Amorim plans to adapt quickly and implement the principles that brought him success in Portugal.
