Osun shooting: Gov Adeleke calls for peace

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has called for peace following a protest on Wednesday morning, which preceded the police shooting of Wakeel Nurudeen Iyanda Alowonle on Monday night in Osogbo.

Adeleke, in a statement by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, said the call for peace was necessary to allow the authorities to investigate and deliver justice regarding the attempted murder of Alowonle Iyanda, the Osun State Transport Management System Chairman.

DAILY POST reported that a protest was staged on Wednesday morning around Aregbe Park along the Gbongan-Ibadan road in Osogbo.

As a result of the protest, commercial transportation and mini buses, Korope, had not been operating at the time of filing this report.

The governor, in his statement, pleaded with transport workers statewide not to take the law into their own hands and urged them to allow state and federal authorities to address the issue so that justice could prevail.

The Governor disclosed that he had spoken to the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and that immediate actions had been directed by the police authorities to bring to book those responsible for shooting the State Park Management System chairman.

“I call on Osun transport workers to maintain peace and not take the law into their own hands. I have acted on this sad incident. I spoke with the police chief, and I had a closed-door meeting with the Commissioner of Police. Justice will be served.

“We will not allow agents of violence to destroy the peace and stability of our dear state. Do not be provoked to violence. Go about your normal duties while we handle this serious threat to the peace of our state,” he said.
