Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the 2023 Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate in Lagos State, has criticized the reforms introduced by President Bola Tinubu, claiming they have brought more harm than good to Nigerians.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday, Rhodes-Vivour argued that the majority of Nigerians are now facing severe hardship due to the policies implemented since President Tinubu assumed office in May 2023.
According to the LP chieftain, 70% of Nigerians are compelled to spend almost all their income on basic necessities such as transportation and food. He further stated that the only beneficiaries of these reforms appear to be bankers, government officials, and close associates of the President.
“The people are enduring unprecedented hardship. Currently, over 70% of their income goes toward transportation and food, leaving them unable to even consider housing,” Rhodes-Vivour said during the interview.
He also criticized what he described as a culture of wastefulness and extravagance among government officials, which he believes is out of touch with the economic struggles faced by the average citizen.
“The only groups seemingly benefitting from these reforms are the bankers, those in government, and the President’s allies. How many ordinary Nigerians can claim they’ve gained anything from these reforms?” he asked.
According to reports, President Tinubu’s administration has introduced significant policies, including the removal of fuel subsidies and the floating of the naira. These measures have triggered soaring inflation, further exacerbating the economic challenges faced by the nation.
