Ondo: Amotekun Foils 5 Kidnap Attempts, Rescues 9 Victims

Akure, Oct. 4, 2024 (TheGavel) – The Western Nigeria Security Network, popularly known as the Amotekun Corps, has reported significant successes in combating kidnapping in Ondo State, successfully foiling five attempted kidnappings and rescuing nine victims within just one week.

Mr. Adetunji Adeleye, the state Commander of Amotekun Corps, shared these details during a press briefing on Friday in Akure, where he also paraded 20 suspects apprehended for various crimes, including cultism, burglary, and motorcycle theft.

Adeleye emphasized the corps’ dedication to enhancing the safety and security of the state’s residents. He noted that the arrests were made possible through the proactive efforts of the Amotekun Rangers, who have been actively patrolling forests and other identified hotspots to deter kidnapping activities.

Among the notable arrests was a 28-year-old suspect, Usman Abubakar, apprehended in Igbo Oba, Owo. According to Adeleye, Abubakar admitted to having previously collected a ransom of N2 million from a victim. “Abubakar provided details about the distribution of the N2 million ransom and disclosed information that could lead to the apprehension of their masterminds,” he stated.

The Commander highlighted the successful operations of the Amotekun Rangers, which were launched under the leadership of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa. “The Rangers have made considerable inroads into known criminal territories within the week. We have successfully thwarted five kidnapping attempts and rescued nine victims, indicating the effectiveness of our interventions,” he said.

Adeleye also pointed out that the notorious Elegbeka area had been a focus of their operations, stating, “We have intensified our efforts in this region and are pleased to announce that our Rangers have effectively infiltrated the forests to ensure the safety of commuters traveling through the area.”

He concluded by reassuring the public of the ongoing commitment of the Amotekun Rangers to continue their efforts in patrolling the forests, thereby safeguarding lives and property across Ondo State. (NAN)
