The Federal Government of Nigeria has finalised documentation to facilitate the extradition of Simon Ekpa from Finland, where he faces terrorism-related charges.

General Christopher Musa, Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, confirmed the development in an interview on Channels Television.

“Well, I’m sure he’s cooling off somewhere. Legal action will be taken accordingly. I don’t want to say too much, but I’m glad he’s been arrested,” Musa remarked, expressing confidence in Finland’s cooperation.

Simon Ekpa, a prominent Biafra agitator, was arrested in Finland in November 2024 alongside four associates.

Finnish authorities detained him on charges including incitement to violence, separatist propaganda, and financing terrorism.

A Finnish court in Lahti ordered Ekpa’s remand after finding probable grounds for public incitement to commit crimes with terrorist intent in Nigeria.

Ekpa has gained notoriety for his social media advocacy for the violent secession of southeastern Nigeria, a stance that has drawn sharp criticism and heightened concerns over national security.

The Nigerian government’s move to secure Ekpa’s extradition underscores its commitment to addressing threats to the country's unity and stability.

The Finnish government is expected to act promptly on the submitted documents, paving the way for Ekpa’s trial.

This development marks a significant step in Nigeria’s efforts to curtail separatist movements and strengthen its legal framework for combating terrorism.
