Nigerian Army Explores Partnership with Nigeria-Korea Institute for Military Innovations

Lokoja, Nigeria (TheGavel) – The Nigerian Army has announced plans to collaborate with the Nigeria-Korea Friendship Institute (NKFI) in Lokoja on military innovations and national development. This was revealed by Brigadier-General Oluremi Fadairo, Commander of the 12th Brigade, Nigerian Army, during his inspection visit to the institute on Monday, September 30, 2024.

Brig.-Gen. Fadairo praised the state-of-the-art facilities at NKFI, describing them as exceptional and comparable to those found at leading global institutions such as the Tata Institute of Technology in India. He emphasized the importance of fostering creativity and forward-thinking among researchers and students, especially in an era where technological advancements can significantly influence military power.

“With the facilities available at the Nigeria-Korea Friendship Institute, the Nigerian Army can collaborate effectively for military innovation,” Fadairo said. He stressed that the purpose of the visit was to evaluate the facilities and identify potential areas where the institute and the Nigerian Army could collaborate. “We hope that the institution will place greater emphasis on military innovation to support the growth and development of Nigeria.”

The brigade commander also highlighted the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration, stating, “Imagine the potential here if we harness the expertise of engineers, computer scientists, and strategists working together.” He encouraged partnerships with leading defense technology firms and emphasized that such collaborations would help tackle complex military challenges.

Fadairo expressed optimism that NKFI could become a key player in Nigeria’s technological breakthrough, envisioning the institute as not only a training ground for military officers but also a hub for groundbreaking military research and development. “Let us aspire to not only keep pace with global advancements but to lead the way in military innovation,” he added.

Earlier, the Rector of NKFI, Mr. Williams Charles, explained that the institute was designed to advance skills and inspire youth towards technological progress. He acknowledged the efforts of Governor Usman Ododo’s administration in creating an enabling environment for the institute to flourish as a model of excellence in the state.

Mr. Charles welcomed the collaboration with the Nigerian Army and emphasized that the partnership would open new frontiers for technological advancement. He expressed gratitude for Brig.-Gen.
