Man Seeks End to 14-Year ‘Loveless’ Marriage, Calls Wife Troublesome

Ibadan, Oct. 7, 2024 (NAN) – Adetunji Adewale, a mechanical engineer, has requested the dissolution of his 14-year marriage to his estranged wife, Adedoyin, at a Mapo Grade A Customary Court in Ibadan.

Adewale, who resides in the Asolo-Ireakari area of Ibadan, stated before the court that his wife had made his life difficult and unhappy, citing frequent domestic violence and a lack of love as key reasons for his decision.

“I am tired of frequent domestic violence which is clear from Adedoyin’s lack of love for me. She left me in 2014, and despite taking responsibility for our two children’s welfare, Adedoyin does not allow them to stay with me. She is raising them in an Islamic home, her new husband’s house, while I am a Christian,” Adewale explained.

The petitioner also sought an order restraining Adedoyin from threatening or harassing him.

Adedoyin, a caterer residing in Idiroko, Asolo, confirmed her consent to the divorce but requested that custody of their children remain with her, as they had been under her care for the past 10 years. She acknowledged Adewale’s provision for their needs and school fees but argued that the children were not familiar with living with their father.

In her ruling, the Court President, Mrs. S.M. Akintayo, dissolved the marriage, awarding custody of the children to Adedoyin, stating that they were accustomed to living with their mother and may be traumatized if taken away. The court also granted Adewale’s request, restraining Adedoyin from harassing, threatening, or disturbing him in the future. (NAN)
