Man, 64, Arraigned for Alleged Theft in Ibadan

Ibadan, Oct. 4, 2024 (TheGavel) – A 64-year-old man, Tajudeen Olasunkanmi, was arraigned on Friday at the Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan for alleged theft and assault. Olasunkanmi, whose address was not provided, is facing multiple charges, including theft, assault, and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace. The defendant pleaded not guilty to all charges brought against him.

The prosecution, led by Inspector Oladejo Balogun, informed the court that the alleged incident took place on August 19, 2024, in Agboola village, Onidewure, Ibadan. According to the prosecution, Olasunkanmi is accused of assaulting the complainant, Alhaji Taiwo Agboola, and unlawfully stealing N200,000 from him. Furthermore, Balogun alleged that Olasunkanmi acted in a manner likely to disturb public peace. He is accused of creating an atmosphere of fear and chaos, preventing the complainant from entering his residence.

The prosecutor stated that the alleged offenses contravene Sections 351, 390(9), and 249(d) of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000. Section 351 pertains to assault, while Section 390(9) deals with theft, and Section 249(d) relates to conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.

The presiding Magistrate, Mrs. Olasinmibo Sanusi-Zubair, granted Olasunkanmi bail in the sum of N100,000, with the condition that he provides two reliable sureties in like sum. She emphasized the importance of ensuring the sureties are credible before adjourning the case. The hearing for the case has been scheduled for November 18, 2024. (NAN)
