‘Avoid night travels’ — NYSC DG warns corps members
The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, Brigadier General Y. D. Ahmed, has admonished corps members in Abia State to desist from incessant and unnecessary travels and night journeys that could endanger their lives.
General Ahmed gave the admonition to the 2024 Batch C Stream I Corps Members on Sunday, December 8, at the multipurpose hall of the Umunna Bende NYSC Abia Orientation Camp during his official visit to the camp.
The NYSC director general, who spoke on various aspects of the service year, told corps members that if they must travel, they should obtain the necessary permission and must travel with registered transport companies.
He further urged them to pay attention to the security lectures and other instructions given to them on camp. He avowed that their welfare and security are great priorities for NYSC.
“NYSC will not post corps members to areas prone to security threats,” he said.
On Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development, SAED, the NYSC boss stated that the essence of SAED was to prepare them for the future. He averred that NYSC is in collaboration with various financial institutions to give corps members interest-free loans and grants as startups for their businesses. He urged the corps members to use the service year to reflect on the future and improve themselves.
He advised them to remain where they are posted and do their bit to improve their host communities by engaging in productive ventures that will improve their lives.
Speaking on community development service, he urged them to participate actively and embark on projects that could lead to them being rewarded, including the Presidential Award that comes with automatic employment. In concluding his remarks, the NYSC DG charged corps members to respect the culture and traditions of their host communities.
Earlier in her speech, the state coordinator of NYSC in Abia, Mrs Gladys Adama, said that the Abia State Government has commenced rehabilitation work at the orientation camp.
