Kano state governor Abba Kabir Yusuf sacks top officials
Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has dismissed the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Abdullahi Bichi, as well as his Chief of Staff, Hon. Shehu Wada Sagagi, and five commissioners in a significant cabinet reshuffle.
The announcement was made during a press briefing on Thursday by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, who explained that the changes are aimed at enhancing the administration’s efficiency and delivering better governance to the people of Kano State.
As part of the reshuffle, several commissioners had their portfolios reassigned.
“This marks the first major reorganization of my cabinet, effective immediately,” Governor Yusuf stated. “The decision is intended to boost administrative performance and align the government’s priorities more closely with the needs of Kano residents.”
According to reports, the office of the Chief of Staff has been abolished, while the SSG was relieved of his duties due to health reasons.
The following commissioners retained their positions:
Barr. Haruna Isa Dederi – Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice
Dr. Danjuma Mahmoud – Commissioner for Agriculture
Dr. Abubakar Labaran – Commissioner for Health
Engr. Marwan Ahmad – Commissioner for Works and Housing
Commissioners with reassigned portfolios include:
Deputy Governor Comrade Aminu Abdulssalam, now overseeing the Ministry of Higher Education, moving from the Ministry of Local Government.
Hon. Mohammad Tajo Usman, who takes charge of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
Dr. Yusuf Ibrahim Kofar Mata, now responsible for Science, Technology, and Innovation, transitioning from Higher Education.
Hon. Amina Abdullahi, who moves to the Ministry for Women, Children, and Persons with Disabilities from Humanitarian and Poverty Alleviation.
Hon. Aisha Lawal Saji, who now heads Tourism and Culture, leaving her previous role in the Ministry for Women, Children, and Persons with Disabilities.
The five commissioners dismissed from the cabinet include:
Ibrahim Jibril Fagge – Ministry of Finance
Ladidi Ibrahim Garko – Ministry of Culture and Tourism
Baba Halilu Dantiye – Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs
Shehu Aliyu Yammedi – Ministry of Special Duties
Abbas Sani Abbas – Ministry of Rural and Community Development
The Governor directed the dismissed officials, including the former Chief of Staff, to report to his office for potential reassignment.
