A former Commissioner for Rural and Community Development in Kano State, Abba Sani Abbas, has resigned from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

According to reports, Abbas who was recently dismissed alongside five other commissioners by the Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has now joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He was formally welcomed into the APC by Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin.

As part of the welcoming ceremony, captured in a video released by the media office of the Deputy Senate President, Abbas symbolically removed the red cap associated with the Kwankwasiyya movement and replaced it with another cap, signifying his switch in allegiance.

In related news from Kano State, the 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, has urged residents to remain calm and maintain peace following the Court of Appeal’s ruling on the emirate dispute.

The Court of Appeal in Abuja, led by Justice Muhammad Mustapha, ruled on Friday, January 10, 2025, that the Federal High Court in Kano lacked jurisdiction to preside over the case involving the Kano monarchy. The court ordered the Kano State Chief Judge to assign a new judge to hear the case involving the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, the Kano State Government, and the 16th Emir, Muhammad Sanusi II, along with the Kano State Assembly.

Responding to the judgment, Emir Sanusi expressed satisfaction with the decision. Speaking at his palace in Kano City after Friday prayers, he commended the verdict and encouraged the people of the state to remain patient, peaceful, and prayerful.
