The World Anti-Doping Agency is calling for a ban of one to two years for Jannik Sinner. Although the acquittal of the Tennis Anti-Doping Agency (ITIA) remains legally binding, the International Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) must now deal with WADA’s objection and convene a hearing for both sides. It will likely take months until that happens, as long as Sinner can continue to compete in tournaments.

On Monday, Sinner will be in action in the quarterfinals of the ATP 500 tournament in Beijing. The opponent there is Jiri Lehecka (ATP 37) at 1 p.m. (CET). Sinner has won his two previous duels against the 22-year-old Czech. However, Lehecka is considered an unpleasant opponent. During the three-set win against the Russian Roman Safiullin, Sinner already noticed that the current situation is not leaving him unscathed.

By the way, Daniil Medvedev and Carlos Alcaraz are also still there in China. Sinner could only score against one of them in a final at the earliest. In the women’s tournament, Anna Kalinskaya is in the round of 16 in Beijing. In any case, the support of his girlfriend on site will do Sinner good – in these not easy times.
