The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has denied the allegation of attempting to turn Rivers State into his personal estate.

According to him, those accusing him of trying to convert Rivers State to personal property have not been able to answer the simple question of how he has been doing it.

Wike, a two-term former governor of Rivers State, made the remarks on Friday while responding to the allegation by another two-term former governor of the state, Peter Odili.

Naija News recalls Odili had accused Wike of trying to turn Rivers State into his personal estate but praised the incumbent governor of the state, Siminalayi Fubara, for resisting the attempts.

Speaking at an event in Port Harcourt on December 28, Odili said: “It is now over 12 months, since the 25th October 2023, when a fierce existential fight, though unnecessary, was waged against Governor Fubara over the soul of Rivers State.

“With assuring fortitude, Governor Fubara confronted the challenge, prevented the quest by one man to capture the State as a private estate, emancipated Rivers people, steadied governance and made civil servants and Rivers people happier as it used to be until he left office in 2007.”

But responding during a New Year luncheon in Port Harcourt on Friday, 3rd January, 2025, Wike described himself as the best Governor to ever be in charge of Rivers State.

He praised himself for executing developmental projects during his term in office.

Wike also challenged those accusing him of converting the state to personal property to come forward with their evidence.

“I never said so. I paid money for Rivers people to be medical doctors. I am trying to make Rivers State the medical hub of South-South Nigeria. How did I now come to convert Rivers State into a personal estate?”

“I am the best governor that Rivers State has ever produced. How did I convert Rivers State as my personal estate? And people will not answer simple question,” Wike fired back at Odili.
