A £7,200 bronze statue honouring England’s all-time leading goalscorer, Harry Kane, has been unveiled.

The bronze seats at the Peter May Sports Centre in Walthamstow, London, but not without sparking heated debate.

The artwork, showing Kane seated with a football on his lap, has drawn sharp criticism for its peculiar design, with fans branding it the “stuff of nightmares.”

Commissioned in 2019 during Kane’s tenure at Tottenham Hotspur, the statue’s unveiling was delayed as local authorities struggled to find an appropriate display location.

The sports centre was chosen at the end of the day, alongside graffiti murals celebrating milestones from Kane’s illustrious career, which boasts 426 goals and counting.

The Bayern Munich star and England captain appeared unfazed by the backlash, smiling as he posed beside the statue, fresh from his stellar performance in England’s 5-0 Nations League victory over Ireland.
