Governor Otti Expresses Disappointment Over Pensioners’ Accusations of Deception
Abia State governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has expressed disappointment over recent accusations of deceit from pensioners in the state.
Dr. Otti highlighted that his administration inherited unpaid pension arrears dating back to 2014 and has since cleared these outstanding payments.
He also pointed out that since April this year, Abia pensioners have been receiving their full pensions on the 28th of every month without fail.
During his first meeting with the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP), the governor said that the pensioners had emphasized the need for consistent, full payments to help them plan their finances.
The governor claimed that they agreed to forgo the arrears if the government could commit to paying 100 percent of their pension going forward.
Expressing his frustration, Dr. Otti remarked that it was unfair for pensioners to accuse the government of deceit after fulfilling the terms of the agreement.
