Governor Fubara Set to Re-present 2025 Budget to Rivers Assembly Amid Push for Peace
Rivers State Governor, Sim Fubara, is reportedly preparing to re-present the 2025 budget to the Rivers State House of Assembly.
Although, there is no official confirmation to this new development, a sources close to the government who spoke to SPEAR NEWS on Wednesday morning said the governor may likely present the budget if official communications between the two groups end smoothly, as the budget is ready for presentation.
The budget is expected to be submitted to the Assembly led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, rather than the factional Speaker, Oko Jumbo, who had initially received the budget in January.
This development follows a meeting between President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and leaders of the Niger Delta at the State House on Tuesday. During the meeting, the President urged the leadership of PANDEF (Pan Niger Delta Forum) to mediate and restore peace between the conflicting factions in the state.
Governor Fubara has, since after the Supreme Court’s ruling, consistently emphasised the importance of peace.
Speaking at the commissioning of key projects under his administration, he assured the people of Rivers State of his commitment to fully comply with the Supreme Court’s judgment. He expressed regret over the prolonged crisis that has plagued the state for the past sixteen months, noting that the resources expended on prosecuting the conflict could have been better utilized for the state’s development.
At the inauguration of the Judges Quarters in Rivers State on Tuesday, Governor Fubara reiterated his dedication to the state’s progress while affirming his adherence to the Supreme Court’s ruling.
He stated, “It has not been an easy 16 months for me as Governor of Rivers State, but what’s important is the interest of our state must be above personal interest. I want to say it here very loud and clear to everyone, the Supreme Court has given a judgment, and my administration will implement the judgment to the fullest.”
