Fubara Foresees New Political Structure After Rivers LG Poll

Port Harcourt, Oct. 1, 2024 (TheGavel) – Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has projected that the upcoming local government elections, scheduled for Oct. 5, will usher in a new political structure that is more attuned to the needs of the people.

This was disclosed in a statement by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, following a meeting between the governor and members of The Simplicity Movement at the Government House in Port Harcourt on Tuesday. The group, led by Chief Sobomabo Jackrich, a 2023 gubernatorial candidate of the National Rescue Movement (NRM), pledged their support for Fubara’s administration.

In response to the group’s show of support, Governor Fubara reaffirmed his commitment to safeguarding the integrity of Rivers State amidst ongoing political challenges. He emphasized the importance of collective progress, stating, “We must defend the dignity of our state, we must ensure that the commonwealth of this state belongs to everyone.”

The governor stressed the significance of the state-first mindset embodied in his administration’s slogan, ‘Rivers First’, highlighting that prioritizing the state’s interests over personal gain would help tackle persistent issues like crime, hunger, and unemployment.

Urging the electorate to actively participate in the upcoming election, Fubara expressed confidence that the poll would mark a turning point for his administration. He added that the election’s outcome would provide a foundation for the next phase of the government’s strategic plan to address the state’s challenges. (NAN)
