Four Nigerian students jailed in UK after gang fight
Four Nigerian Students have been sentenced to jail by a United Kingdom (UK) court for violent disorder after investigations into a gang fight that happened in Leicester in November 2021.
The fight which happened in the early hours of November 4, 2021 involved weapons being used by the students including knives and a baseball bat.
The gang fight also left a man who was 18 at the time with various degrees of stab wounds.
According to the UK Police, the culprits were arrested and subsequently charged following months of investigation which included CCTV analysis, phone work and public appeals.
The Police representative, Detective Constable Sean Downey said, “This incident highlights the serious danger of violent disorder. It is extremely fortunate that further injury was not caused to the people involved or to other members of the public who witnessed the incident. This could have been a very different investigation. Following the disorder, a full investigation took place with suspects being identified at different stages through CCTV enquiries, phone work and public appeals.
“Further investigative work then led to the charges being made. Thank you to everyone who has assisted us throughout this investigation and provided information. As a force, our priority is to keep the public safe. We will not tolerate violent disorder in our communities and will take action against those who are responsible for it.”
The defendants who are all 21-year-olds and students at De Montfort University in Leicester at the time of the incident were on Thursday November 14 sentenced to prison.
