Female surveyors push for increased women participation in surveying

The Coordinator of the Women in Surveying, FCT Branch, Surveyor Ajoke Fatimah Akintola, has urged women to actively engage in the built environment to expedite national development.

During the 2024 FCT Women in Surveying seminar, themed “Inspiring the Career Woman, Positioning Her for Excellence,” Surveyor Ajoke emphasised the importance of empowering women within the surveying profession, noting that such initiatives have enhanced productivity and improved gender balance in the Federal Capital Territory.

She remarked that fostering a more inclusive and supportive environment for women in surveying will inspire younger generations to significantly contribute to the country’s infrastructural development.

“In an ever-evolving professional landscape, the contributions of women in the surveying profession and beyond have increasingly proven invaluable.

“Our theme for this year, ‘Inspiring the Career Woman, Positioning Her for Excellence,’ underscores our commitment to empowering women by providing them with the necessary tools, opportunities, and support to thrive in their careers.

“Let us build a future where women in surveying and the built environment are not just participants but leaders and pioneers,” she added.

Guest speaker, Surveyor Dr. Moses Mefe, a senior lecturer in the Department of Geomatics at Ahmadu Bello University, called on the federal government to increase support for the surveying profession.

He noted that technological advancements have contributed to a growing number of women entering the field, promoting greater gender balance.
