A female chamber clerk in Aba has narrowly escaped an attempted ritual killing after being abducted by unidentified individuals.

According to Barrister Emperor Ogbonna, the victim had gone to the High Court in Aba two days prior to submit a letter. On her way back, she boarded a commercial tricycle (Keke) but was allegedly rendered unconscious by a noxious substance applied by the abductors.

She later regained consciousness in an unknown location in Ogbor Hill, where she was held captive overnight. Her abductors reportedly intended to use her for ritual purposes. However, after stripping her, they discovered she was menstruating. Upon consulting a spiritualist, identified as a Yoruba ‘Baba,’ they were allegedly informed that she could not be used for the ritual, as “the gods would not accept her.”

Following this revelation, the abductors blindfolded her and abandoned her at Ogbor Hill the next day.

Meanwhile, her disappearance had already been reported to the police as a missing person, with efforts underway to locate her. Her family had also visited her workplace in distress, seeking information about her whereabouts.

Barrister Ogbonna expressed relief at her safe return, attributing it to divine intervention. He also raised concerns over the increasing incidents of ritual killings in Abia State. He referenced a recent case where over 30 corpses were reportedly discovered in Umuahia, describing the situation as alarming.

He called on security agencies to intensify efforts in tackling the rising cases of abductions and ritual-related killings in the state.

“The authorities responsible for protecting lives and property must devise more strategic measures to outsmart these criminal elements and ensure the safety of citizens,” he stated.
