EXPOSING THE TRUTH: OBINNA ICHITA’S FAILED LEADERSHIP AND BASELESS ACCUSATIONS AGAINST SENATOR ABARIBE By Ikechukwu Okoroafor, A.K.A. Abubakar Rabiu
In response to the baseless and unfounded allegations made by Hon. Obinna Ichita against Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, it is essential to set the record straight and address the integrity of these claims.
In 2019, with the backing of the late Hon. Ossy Prestige and our collective support, Hon. Obinna Ichita rose to become the representative of Aba South State Constituency. It was through our efforts that Ichita was given the platform to serve after he returned with nothing from Germany.
Hon. Ichita, who represented Aba South State Constituency from 2019 to 2023, failed to deliver any tangible development to the people he represented. Throughout his tenure, he did not execute or attract a single project to benefit his constituency, including his own community. His tenure was marked by an absence of accountability, reliability, and impact—a fact well known to the constituents of Aba South.
By the end of his four years in office, there was no single project he could account for—no infrastructure, no development, and no evidence of effective governance. Instead, it became evident that funds allocated for his constituency were mismanaged or diverted for personal gain.
In 2022, ahead of the 2023 elections, Hon. Ichita approached me seeking support for his governorship ambition as the running mate to Prof. Gregory Ibe. On one occasion at Enitona Hotel, he even went as far as kneeling down to plead for my backing. I firmly refused because I knew that supporting him would yield nothing of value, given his poor track record.
Interestingly, Prof. Gregory Ibe himself revealed to me that Ichita was not his choice for a running mate. He confided that the party had imposed Ichita on him, despite concerns about his lack of integrity and history of collecting funds for personal gain. Prof. Ibe further expressed regret over having Ichita as his deputy, stating that his association with Ichita likely contributed to the campaign’s failure.
Prof. Gregory Ibe even said that Ichita was exploiting his position as his running mate to extort money from him under various pretenses, further highlighting his self-serving tendencies and lack of integrity.
It is particularly ironic for Hon. Ichita, whose legislative career yielded no meaningful achievements, to question the credibility and accomplishments of Senator Abaribe—a man whose actions speak louder than words. In less than two years of my interaction with Senator Abaribe, he has facilitated numerous impactful projects in Aba South and beyond, including:
A. Street Lighting Projects:
1. Ekeji street
2. Igwebuike street
3. Umunnato Street
4. Ezeani street
5. Okoro road
6. Chukwudi street
7. Umuọsị road
8. Nwaamụ́ street
9. Echianu street
10. Ọgụ Umunna street
11. Umumba road
12. Okporo Ogwugwu Nnentu
13. Iheorji Market
14. Amaukwu road
15. Egbelu Iheorji road
16. Umunwaasịrị street
17. Ọnụ street
18. Ihemelandu street
19. Umuobasi Nnentu
20. Amankita street
21. Ụka Umunna street
22. Umune isii
23. Ụmụ Oké Nnụnụ Nnentu
24. Ahaba Imenyi; and many others.
B. Market Rehabilitation: Reconstruction of Sunday Nworu Line in Iheorji Market after a fire incident.
C. Community Infrastructure: Distribution of 500kVA transformers to various communities.
D. Solar Power Projects: Installation of solar power stations at Aba Area Command and Cameroun Barracks.
E. School Rehabilitation: Rehabilitation of Tenant Road Primary School.
These are just a few examples of the Senator’s commitment to uplifting the lives of the people he represents, all executed through my collaboration with him. These were the ones I, Ikechukwu Okoroafor, Aka Abubakar Rabiu, was directly involved within two years of my contact with the senator. I can’t speak of others done by other of his aids across the LGAs in Abia South Senatorial District.
In stark contrast, Hon. Ichita’s tenure left no legacy of development, not even the fulfillment of minor promises such as providing sand to repair a road leading to St. John’s Catholic Church in Iheorji. His attempts to secure political alliances for personal gain further underscore his lack of vision and integrity.
The claims made by Hon. Ichita reflect desperation and a need to deflect attention from his own failings as he strives to resurrect his dead political career. Senator Abaribe’s track record of reliability and selflessness is evident in the numerous developmental projects he has spearheaded, ensuring that Aba South and Abia South continue to thrive under his representation.
I urge the constituents to disregard baseless accusations and instead focus on tangible results that have positively impacted their lives by Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe.
