Court Adjourns Ruling on Suit over Kano Mini Palace till Oct 10

Kano, October 2, 2024(TheGavel)– A Kano State High Court has scheduled October 10, 2024, for a ruling on an interlocutory application seeking to prevent the 15th Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado-Bayero, from renovating the Nassarawa Mini Palace.

The Kano State Government, Attorney General of Kano, and Kano Emirate Council, represented by their counsel Rilwanu Umar SAN, filed the motion ex parte on September 12, 2024. The applicants are seeking a court order to restrain the Emir from carrying out renovations on the mini palace located along State Road in Kano.

Alhaji Aminu Ado-Bayero is the sole respondent in the suit.

When the case came up for hearing, counsel to the applicants, Habib Akilu, informed the court that the defendant was not represented and that the substantive suit was ready for hearing. Akilu then moved the interlocutory application seeking to prevent the defendant from reconstructing or altering the mini palace.

Presiding Judge and Chief Judge of Kano State, Justice Dije Abdu-Aboki, adjourned the matter until October 10 for ruling and mention of the substantive suit. She ordered that all processes be posted on the court’s notice board.

It is noteworthy that on September 13, the court granted an interim injunction restraining the defendant from demolishing, renovating, or repairing the Nassarawa Mini Palace pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice. The court also directed the parties to maintain the status quo of the palace’s structural and architectural design during this period. (NAN)
