Amosun demolished my cement plant twice – Dangote

The President of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has accused former Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, of demolishing his cement plant twice during his tenure.

Dangote claimed on Monday during a meeting with Governor Dapo Abiodun.
In a video from the meeting with Abiodun, he alleged that the Amosun administration twice pulled down his cement factory while it was under construction.

He said, “I deem it fit to have it on record that the factory we are visiting now in Itori, it’s because of his excellency that we came back. That factory was demolished twice.

“We started building, then Amosun demolished it, the second time, we started again, he demolished not only the factory, including the fencing, so we left.
“But right now, we’re coming back because of his excellency, my brother, Prince Dapo Abiodun, we’re now back. When we go there you’ll be very surprised.”

The Ogun State Government had earlier stated that Abiodun met with Dangote to discuss expanding investment opportunities in manufacturing, oil & gas, and energy.

The talks, according to the government, explored ways to boost industrial production and create jobs.

The statement added, “The engagement explored potential collaborations to boost industrial production, enhance the state’s energy infrastructure, and create new job opportunities.

“Governor Abiodun reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to providing a business-friendly environment, positioning Ogun State as a key hub for economic growth and industrial development in Nigeria.”
Dangote also revealed that his company had resumed plans to establish Nigeria’s largest seaport at the Olokola Free Trade Zone in Ogun Waterside Local Government Area.

Additionally, he announced the construction of a 6-million-metric-ton-per-annum cement factory at Itori in Ewekoro Local Government, set for completion by November 2026.
He lamented that the almost $800m project should have been completed earlier if not for opposition from Amosun’s administration.

Alhaji Aliko Dangote, the President of the Dangote Group, has reaffirmed his commitment to reviving the Dangote Cement Plant in Itori, Ogun State.
Dangote spoke during his meeting with the state governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun on Monday, March 17, 2025.
Speaking after a meeting with the Governor, Dangote revealed that the project had suffered setbacks under the previous administration, with the site being demolished twice by former Governor Ibikunle Amosun.

However, he credited Governor Abiodun’s pro-business policies and leadership for restoring investor confidence, paving the way for Dangote Cement’s return to Ogun State.
He said “I deem it fit to have it on record that the factory we are visiting now in Itori, it’s because of his excellency (Dapo Abiodun) that we came back.

The Itori Cement Plant, set to become Dangote Cement’s fourth greenfield project in Nigeria, is expected to boost local production, create jobs, and enhance Ogun State’s position as a leading industrial hub in the country.
