6 Things Nigerians Enjoy That Other Countries Do Not (Photos)
You thought Nigeria was the worst country, didn’t you? You should be proud and thankful to be a Nigerian.
Many people believe there is nothing to celebrate. Bad roads, inadequate electricity, a hike in food prices, and, of course, the terror of unknown gunmen.
Many Nigerians nowadays wish they were from another country; however, they are unaware of the wealth of freedoms they take for granted on a daily basis. In this article, hubgist discusses six freedoms that Nigerians take for granted but other countries wish they had.
1. The Freedom to Name Your Child What You Want
We are free to name our children anything we want in Nigeria, and there are no consequences. Do you think that everyone is entitled to the same level of freedom? There are rules about what you can name your child in countries like Germany, Japan, Sweden, Norway, and Iceland. According to the BBC, parents in Iceland must select from a list of approximately 1,800 girls’ and 1,700 boys’ names.
2. The Freedom to Style Your Hair in Any Way You Want
Do you think you’d look better if you wore Ghana weaving or twisting? Give it a shot. In Nigeria, you’re free to style your hair however you want. Meanwhile, in North Korea, if you have a haircut or a hairstyle that isn’t approved by the government, you could face serious consequences.
Only 18 haircuts are permitted for women and 15 for men in North Korea. There is no way to change the color of your hair in any of the hairstyles.
3. The Freedom To Own A Car
You are free to drive a car and go wherever you want in Nigeria if you are old enough to have a license. Only government officials in North Korea are permitted to own cars. Only one out of every 100 North Koreans is estimated to own a car.
4. The Freedom to End a Relationship or Marriage
In Nigeria, you are free to end your marriage at any time, even if you have been married for 30 years. There are strict limitations on who can divorce and for what reasons in the Philippines.
5. You Have The Freedom To Drive In Any Color Car You Want
You can have any color of car in Nigeria, whether it’s black, red, orange, or green. However, in Turkmenistan, the color black is associated with bad luck, while the color white is associated with happiness. This is why black cars are barred.
6. Freedom of Religion
Regardless of your religious affiliation, you are free to practice your religion as you see fit in Nigeria as long as you are not harming others. This cannot be said for a large number of other countries. North Korea, for example, is a state-sanctioned atheist country. Religious practices of any kind are prohibited. In North Korea, preaching in public can result in life imprisonment or death.
Pastor Han Chung-Ryeol was assassinated in North Korea in 2016 for preaching the gospel.
That is all there is to it. When you’re having a bad day and want to get out of Nigeria, remember that there are some people who have to choose from a list of names for their children, who are prohibited from attending church or mosque, and who are prohibited from owning or driving a black car. After all, Nigeria isn’t all bad. Let us join hands, Igbo, Hausa, Yoruba, Ijaw, Isoko, Itsekiri, Urhobo and other tribes, to make Nigeria great…..See More
