2023 Labour Party Governorship Candidate dumps party

The Labour Party in Bayelsa State has faced a major setback as its 2023 governorship candidate, Udengs Eradiri, and his running mate, Commodore Benjamin Nathus (retd), announced their resignation.

Their decision to leave was supported by many of the party’s local government chairmen, who also exited alongside them.

In a letter dated December 8 and addressed to the state chairman in Yenagoa, Eradiri stated his reasons for leaving.

He explained that he wanted to join a political platform better equipped to provide the kind of leadership Bayelsa needs.

Recently recognized as a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Eradiri expressed appreciation to Labour Party members who supported his vision but noted that internal challenges within the party had hindered progress.

Nathus, in his resignation, shared similar views.

He expressed gratitude to the party members who worked with him during the campaign and said he wanted to align with a platform that could bring real development to Bayelsa.

Both leaders described their time in the party as a learning experience but said their focus now was on finding a new political platform to serve the state better.

Eradiri confirmed ongoing consultations with stakeholders to decide their next political move.

He revealed the importance of joining a party capable of driving meaningful change and improving the lives of Bayelsa residents.
